Setting Up Your First Inventory

Learn how to organize and add items to your inventory effectively.

Before You Start

Make sure you have:

  1. Created at least one storage location
  2. Familiarized yourself with the category system
  3. Gathered information about your current food stock

Adding Items

Method 1: Manual Entry

  1. Click "Add Item" from the dashboard or inventory page
  2. Fill in the required fields:
    • Name: What is the item?
    • Quantity: How much do you have?
    • Unit: kg, L, pieces, etc.
    • Expiry Date: When does it expire?
    • Location: Where is it stored?
    • Category: What type of food is it?
  3. Optional fields:
    • Purchase date
    • Cost
    • Notes
    • Image
  4. Click "Save"

Method 2: Bulk Import (Coming Soon)

Upload a CSV file with multiple items at once.

Best Practices

  • Use consistent naming: "Milk" instead of "milk 2L full fat"
  • Set realistic expiry dates: Be conservative to avoid waste
  • Add notes: Include storage instructions like "Refrigerate after opening"
  • Take photos: Helps with quick identification
  • Update regularly: Mark items as consumed or wasted

Organizing Tips

  • Group similar items in the same location
  • Use categories for easier filtering
  • Set up locations that match your physical space
  • Keep frequently used items easily accessible
